If your skills need some fine tuning, it is best to take a lesson at the Alf Engen Ski School. Adult classes range from beginner to advanced, covering everything from your first time on skis to a Diamond Challenge Workshop. The Alta Youth Club (ages 7 to 16) and Children’s Center (ages 6 weeks to 12 years) are also available to provide a well-rounded Alta ski experience. Additionally, private lessons are offered giving you the ability to tailor the lesson to your desires.
Alta started as a mining town in the late 1800’s and grew rapidly adding a post office and restaurants. A fire destroyed Alta in 1878 followed by an avalanche in 1885. The town was never completely rebuilt and eventually brought mining to a halt in the early 1900’s. Soon, the Forest Service had a growing interest in the area for skiing, and development of the resort began in 1937, building the Alta Lodge and adding the first chairlift. Additional chairlifts and lodges have been added over the years, making Alta what it is today.
